Doing it for the kids

June 25, 2010

One of the charities I’m supporting by taking part in Ride2Raise is Barnardo’s.

It’s an odd choice really as I don’t know much about them. But their poster and ad campaigns have always had a big impact on me.

Central is usually the face of a child looking angry or aggressive or bewildered – and you wonder just what they’ve been through to make them feel this way. You also know that the instant reaction from many would be revulsion or distrust.

The strap-line says “Would you stick by him, even if he told you where to go?

The message is clear: Barnardo’s won’t give up on this child even if others have, and this principle resonates with the father – and the liberal (small “l”) – in me.

It’s also one of the reasons why I hate the Daily Mail, but that’s another story.

Well, would you?
